Shooby

"For years, the search for idiosyncratic scat legend ''Shooby'' Taylor led nowhere. He was reportedly from New York, but which borough? 'William Taylor' is a very common name."

Well, they found him! Good thing too! Turns out he really sucks!
Hear it.
Read it.

Thanks to Jesse.

Hassle Tha Hoff

I swear to god I just saw this at CNN.com in that stupid Feed Room thing:

David Hasslehoff will be recording a rap album under the moniker "Hassle Tha Hoff." It will be produced by Ice-T and hit the streets next summer.

Cooler than shit

I'd just like to take a moment to point out that my friend Kim is cooler than shit.

a) She went to school for 10 years after high school and now works with an idealistic private group dedicated to furthering "responsible medicine."
b) She caught the travel bug a couple years ago and has since found the time, money, and guts to get off her ass and travel through Europe, Japan, and Latin America (including Antigua, Gutemala, Mexico and Belize in often less-than-friendly times).
c) She decided she wanted to know what the whole 'blog thing' was all about, so she dove straight in and now has one of the most intelligent and entertaining weblogs on the block.
d) She also had an interest in photography, so she bought a kick-ass camera, took some kick-ass photos from all over the world, and set up a kick-ass photo gallery at the afore-mentioned blog.
e) She decided she was less than happy with her job in Boston, so she quit, took a 5 week trip through Latin America, came back and packed in two days, and moved to D.C., where she had a new and better job waiting. Oh yeah, and a house...
f) She bought a house.

These are just a few of the reasons I decided she deserved this coveted distinction. Trust me, there are more, but I am but one man, and haven't the time to chronicle her journeys entirely in this forum.

Lastly, let's remember that she did all of this while still being my best friend, a staunch Buffy fan, and most of all... cooler than shit.

Freeware

Boy, nothing slows you down like getting a whole new operating system in the office. Well, maybe getting a whole new machine. Fortunately, I've just gotten both and my ever expanding workload is now large enough to populate a small township! Good thing I've found the time to share some of my thoughts with you, my loyal readership.

It occured to me, as I loaded application after upgrade after utility onto my new machine with it's new OS, that I use quite a few pieces of software that were made available for free by people who are much smarter and less greedy than me. The least I can do, I thought outloud in a room full of people wondering why I wasn't working, was to share some of this software with yoiu, my loyal readership.

MEDIA:
MyIE2 - tabs, ad blocker/filter, translators, plugins, all on an IE engine!!!
Winamp 5.03 - still the best
Soulseek - p2p for smart people

UTILITIES:
Add / Remove Pro - better than ctrl panel add/remove
Huey 1.9 - color picker and all-purpose eyedropper. i use it daily.
SlickRun - adds a floating programmable command line to your desktop
PrintFolders 2.1 - saves files/folder lists as txt or html. can read id3 tags.
DAMN NFO Viewer 2.10
Batchname 1.3

SECURITY:
McAfee AVERT Stinger - powerful anti-virus. only searched for the 40 or so newest and toughest virii.
ZoneAlarm - the best free firewall
Hijackthis - diagnose hijackware / spyware
StartUp List
Adaware - remove spyware / adware

I`m old

Every now and then I browse the design portals for links to noteworthy web sites and pieces of work that dwarf my own diminuitive talent and humble my soul. I usually return from my journey a hollow shell of my former self, often grumbling under my breath about dot-syntax or transparency masks.

Today, even as my girlfriend is planning my 25th birthday party, I sought a diversion. Duh. When sitting at your desk, feeling your age, at your less-than-glamorous job, have some care as to where you turn for a break. Take a walk. Read a magazine for a few minutes. Hell, even turn and talk to the nerd across the room. Just don't put yourself in a position to discover little pieces of artistry such as this one, made by a 15 year old who is smarter than you.

The Witchhunt Is Back On

So you'd better hope your peer-to-peer file-sharing broom's not poking out from the closet when the feds stop by.

Another 477 file sharers were sued this past Wednesday for crimes against humanity. Further enforcing the idea that we all all not more than numbers to the RIAA, they have identified these 477 people only by their IP addresses.

"The latest filings brings the number of lawsuits filed by the recording industry to 2,454 since last summer. None of the cases has yet gone to trial, and 437 people so far have agreed to pay financial penalties of about $3,000 as settlements."

And so the cosmic ballet continues...
