Tokyo Plastic

Sometimes I take a minute to share links to sites that have blown me away. Since I seem to have nothing of my own to say, now is one of those times.

www.arahan.co.kr
www.tokyoplastic.com
www.billybussey.com
www.atari.com/transformers/
www.maroon5.com

And here's a little something to make you feel like shit whether you're a flash designer OR a photographer. Don't go here if you're both. Just don't.

Fahrenheit? Nein!

Well, it's finally arrived. The film that could possibly sway my vote from long-time favorite George W. Bush.

Oh yeah, big-time Bushman. Can't get enough of him. But this Michael Moore fella's got me thinking.

I know what you're thinking: "Jason! You can't possibly be one of those liberal losers in line with Michael Moore and his army of hippy sheep! Are you really going to let that fatass's slander shift your support away from this President? This President who has taken the initiave to keep our country safe, even at the expense of his own popularity. This President who has declared war on everything from Arab Rebels to gay Americans. This President who cares more about what you do with your money, or in your bedroom, or with your estate, than he does about diplomatic realtions with the rest of the world. This man has given his all and you're letting yourself be duped by the media!"

To you I say: "Yer ugly!"

It's just a different culture

Imagine: an 11-year-old girl get into an argument with a classmate. When words aren't enough, she slashes her classmate's throat with a box cutter and leaves her to die in an empty classroom during lunch break.

Four weeks later, in a nearby town, a 17-year-old boy dozes off during class. His teacher, filled with rage, brings him to the staff room and hands him, of all things, a box cutter. He orders the boy to write him an apology in his own blood and leaves him to do so. There were other teachers present in the staff room at the time.

This all happened in southern Japan. The teacher is expected resume his classes next week and has no pending charges. The student's parents have not removed him from classes or requested a new teacher.

I'm trying to imagine any part of this story happening in the US.

For Those About to Be President

I can't believe I didn't know it until this week, but John Kerry was in a high school garage band in the 60s. They called themselves The Electras, and they've recently reissued their self-titled album. With Kerry's famous in-your-face attitude, and great song titles like "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" and "Shanghaied" (!), this album is sure to find a place in the center of your collection.

I don't wanna hear it!

Yeah, I've been on a bit of a blog-break. The longest break I think I've taken since I strarted Receptacle lo these many moons ago. All I can do is offer my apologies and maybe a little bit about what's been keeping me so busy.

1. MY JOB.
Work's been nuts. As many of you know, I make web sites. Mostly for Nestle brands. For the last two months, I've been working on getting a presentable alpha of the new C#.NET redesign of Nestle's flasgship site: VeryBestKids.com. It's the biggest account my company has and the only basket our eggs call home. Stupid really.

2. MY WEB SITE.
Anyone who knows me knows that I make web sites for a living. They probably know that I've made dozens of them. It's likely that they're aware that I've never managed to finish one for myself. Not completely. I've tried on 6, maybe 8 occasions to make a portfolio web site for myself, but stopped part way through. Usually I hit a creative block or run into a problem I don't feel like fixing. It's tough not having anyone to answer to. Anyways, with things at work wobbling about in a less than comforting manner, I've decided to finally get my shit together and make a web site. Guess what! Not finished yet. But that's ok, I've been dedicating every spare minute to it and I'm pretty sure I'll get this one done. You can see a test version of it here.

3. MICKI'S EGG DONATION
Sure, it doesn't really take up that much of my time, but it takes up a lot of my resources in general. Maybe not so many as Micki's. It's been a 7 month ordeal and it came to a head this week. Since Micki's not quite gotten around to telling the world via The Red Carpet, I'll suffice to say: It's over.

4. THE HONOLULU MARATHON.
Aids Project Los Angeles runs a program called The Aids Marathon every year. The program involves getting people to register for the Honolulu Martathon or the San Francisco Half-Marathon and to raise money for APLA in the process. If you raise enough, they'll even offer to help train you and fly you to your destination. We registered a little while back and have begun training. There will be much, much more information here very soon, as well as a paypal account through which you are invited to donate.

So... that's my life. I promise to get my shit together. Just stop yelling at me.
