What it is to be a Patriot

filed under:

My buddy Mark pointed this one out, and has a great post on it as his own site, but I had to bring attention to it myself.

As reported by Slashdot, charges have been brought against a Stargate fan for creating and maintaining a site called SG1Archive.com, where some episodes of the show were made available for download. Sure, this is illegal. Of course he should have realized he could be made an example of. What he didn’t realize, was that he’d be subject to… drumroll please… THE PATRIOT ACT! Yay!

That’s right. The charges were brought by the MPAA and “the FBI invoked a provision of the USA Patriot Act to obtain financial records from his ISP.”

Pretty awesome.
